Third painting in this Apocalypse series is titled Partly Cloudy. Here in South Florida we hear the weather man say “50% chance of rain” a lot. It always makes me think they probably have no idea what the weather might do, but on the off chance it will rain later in the day, they just throw that 50% in there.
Partly cloudy is also a pretty normal weather event around here. In fact, I believe most summer days start out “Partly cloudy with a 50% chance of rain”. Its just one of those things you can count on. And it makes me really glad I am an artist and not a weatherman.
I can assure you every day in my studio is one wild adventure or another. Never partly cloudy with a 50% chance of rain. Not at all.
I wanted to try for a painting that somewhat represented that old weather stand by in a fresh ‘apocalypse’ like way. In the detail shot you can really see those layers of color. A lot like the way our sky is when it is raining and stormy in one section of your neighborhood and bright and sunny in another.
As a child I remember walking to the store and laughing with my girls as some of us were on one side of the street in the sunshine and others in the rain on the other side of the street.
We felt like we were in two different dimensions or planes of existence. Laughing and reaching our arms out to experience both climates at the same time.
At other times just being slightly annoyed and crossing the street to avoid the rain shower as it passed us by.
But the best part was seeing the sunshine brightly reflecting off of the drops of rain as they fell. Like we were being showered with diamonds from above.
