This is the second painting in this series. These paintings consist of only 20% brushwork. The other 80% is painted with a palette knife and discarded credit card.
I apply a mix of gesso and plaster to all of my canvases before I begin painting. And with this series I decided to also work with crackle paste. In the process or “the flow” as I think of it I decided I wanted to paint with the credit card and palette knife because I find them to be much more free-form and I do not “overwork” the paint when using this process like I sometimes do with the brush.
And there is something harsh and cold about the way the paint goes down when you are applying it with a credit card. That combined with the bright colors and the subject gives me a nice sense of contrast or juxtaposition (I love finding ways to use that word).
