Art Journal Work In Progress Portrait

As artists we all face personal challenges. You know that thing that you struggle to make happen the way you intend for it to. My current challenge, what I am working hard to overcome is the ability to sketch on dark substrates. White, yellow, any light color is fine. But when I sketch on dark colors such as the purple in the image below I have a very difficult time of it. This frustrates me so much that I am determined to keep at it until I get it figured out.

I am very happy with her eyes. I think I achieved that balance between painting and illustrative that I enjoy.

This is a spread in my journal and the ‘other’ page is not only incomplete but doesn’t fit the feel of my painting. So it is still a WIP but I wanted to share her with you today. I have a large seascape that I am working on the final touches so I may or may not get the journal page completed this weekend.

  • Christy I love her, she is so dramatic and soulful at the same time, she really speaks to me through her eyes… I see someone who is wistfully thinking about life, she is incredible!
