The full piece in all of its small glory:

I had a blast with her hair, trying for a balance of detail and soft. Not easy. I ended up with a yellow/green highlight as the other colors I tried just didn’t give that feeling of light. Hair can be such a challenge and she does not have all that much hair showing. Overall I am quite pleased with this painting.
And that leads to the one that I started yesterday of my daughter:

This has been gessoed over already. The skin tone was entirely off and her smile just doesn’t really portray the expression in the photo I am using as my inspiration. So I am trying again. I was about halfway with this when I knew it was not going to turn out the way I intended for it to. I find painting Alex such a challenge and I am not sure why. Alex was 15 in the original photo.
Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday.

So I love, love, love that gorgeous woman! You are really evolving with these portraits. I don’t think you are too far off with Alex, just keep at it and you will grasp the right look. You are so damn good!
She is beautiful and awesome…the hair is fantastic…good job honey…:)
