I am in the middle of many pieces but nothing complete to share. I thought I would show you some WIP photos today.

This painting is my interpretation of Lady Gaga in the Poker Face video. I love her music and I think the long blonde hair was adorable on her.

    Working title: Pop Princess

I want to work a bit more on the background to give it a bit more depth.

This painting was started with an acrylic base which I then cold waxed and then painted the subject in oil pastels.

Although I love the texture the background gave me I think my next oil pastel will be done on a smooth surface. Just a little gesso to have tooth but not so much texture as this piece.

    The canvas is 12″ x 12″ x 1.5″.

    Next is an acrylic painting on canvas (18″ x 24″ x 1 1/2″).

    Working title: Surprise

At this stage I have put in the shadows and midtones. Next up are the darkest shadows and details. Then I start glazing.

    I love his expression.

My last two pieces to show you are on glass. This is something new I have never tried before and so far I am enjoying it quite a bit.

I am taking a fun online workshop on Gary Reef’s Ning group working with Plexiglass.

Gary is a fantastic artist and a great instructor. It is such a pleasure to listen to him and see him working on a piece of art.

Currently we are in just the first stage of the project so these images are still a work in progress.

    Working title: Butterfly Garden 1

Both pieces follow the same theme and similar graphics.

    Working title: Butterfly Garden 2:

Here I have added a pen underneath of the glass to show a bit of depth:

I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my in process project photos.

    Have a wonderful week!

    -Christy

I love the texture in the first picture! Was that caused by the wax? And the glass is lovely – a big change for you. Hugs!

  2. Gulfsprite says:

    Hiya Peggy,
Thanks! The texture was created when I put down the gesso. I add in some plaster to get a good texture. On this piece I also added more texture with a crackle plaster in the shape of a heart.

The wax actually allowed the oil pastels to blend a bit better and filled up some of the dips and hollows in the texture.

Thank you. Yes, the glass is a huge change. I love to experiment and am really glad I decided to give this a shot.
