• I Paint Every Day

Posted on July 8, 2010 by in Painting

Not a single day has gone by now for over 6 months that I have not painted something. A few days I might have been ill or taking care of a family member but overall it is a daily thing with me. I have thrown myself into this career with the same devotion and intense study that I did web development. The same drive that took me from sales to budget analyst to online operations. I am accustomed to reinventing myself.

I am not so comfortable with doing so under the gun and certainly not in such a solitary manner.

So I paint every day. I push myself every day. It has been painful and it has at times given me huge amounts of pleasure.

Painting this little one today is one of the good ones. She is so sweet, so lovely and yet her face, her expression, speaks of the need for hero’s in this world.

This is a work in progress on reclaimed wood (part of an old shelf). I originally was only going to lay in the base layer with acrylics, then move into oils. But then I lost myself in the painting, in the flow if you will, and now she is more than 70% finished with acrylics. Maybe next time will be oils.

I love my oil paints so much but have found myself continuing on in acrylics lately. Funny, painting in the oils has led me to better understand the acrylics. I would not have suspected that outcome . I hate the acrylics and was overjoyed when I finally started working with oils. I guess a fork in the road can lead you down what you think is a different journey and yet I am now realizing it can also wind back and join with the first road again.
