Yes – it matters to me. If I find an artist (YouTube, Facebook, magazines, web site) and then work to find out more about them – only to find them distasteful as a human I can no longer see the beauty in their work that I saw initially.

However, if I am moved by a piece of art at the moment of purchase (art fair, gallery, etc.) I may purchase the piece without knowing anything about the artist. Unfortunately, being a research junkie, I would then find what I could about them and the result would be the same – if I find them repugnant as a human I can no longer “see” the art.

Ditto Robyn’s comments. It’s a strange thing, but even if I was totally taken by a piece of art, it would turn almost instantly to dislike if I found out the artist’s behaviour / character was unacceptable. It’s not logical really as the piece of work doesn’t change…………………………….
