I haven’t been posting here as much due to the unbelievable amount of copycat BS going on with the art journaling community. Instead I have been posting in private groups on FB and on my own wall there. Having more control over who sees what gives me some sense of relief.
Unfortunately it means you guys are not getting to see much of my art. I am sorry. Hopefully all of this stealing will die down soon as those doing it will either move on to someone else, grow into their own art, or get called out publicly for their bad behavior.
Something new I have been doing in my journals is writing in quotes [and using them as prompts] from the status updates of my friends on FB. It is so much fun to find something to inspire me from a real live person instead of a quote website or book. Much better to make memories from the people I interact with.
We had a bit of a family emergency this week with my Uncle which has really given me some perspective on things. I am happy to report all is going well now.
This was one of my art journal pages from yesterday with a quote from my FB friend. I will say this is a very mixed-media page. Acrylics, marker, paper towel, inks, oil pastels, pen, painted papers, stencils. Lots of fun!
I love that quote! What a great idea to use what your friends say. Love it. This is a beautiful page as always. Love your art!
LOVE the idea of using status updates!!! I’ve got some FUNNY friends.
wow, I love the colorful pages and that tree. the simplicity is riveting. I keep wanting to look at it again and again.
BWAHAHAHAHA just read your bottom explanation down there (picture an arrow pointing down) I was thinking hmmm, new design?
Thanks Trish. I have no idea where the idea came from… probably I read something really crazy by one of my FB friends and thought “the shit my FB friends say”!
Thanks Nina and haha you noticed that did you
Amie I know right?! Some status updates will make great journal fodder for you lol
I absolutely love this! The paper towel really adds some neat texture to it! I am so sorry that you’re dealing with this rash of copy-cat bologna. I’m one of your quiet fans who doesn’t speak up, but hearing all of this is really starting to make me mad. I personally wish that these people would be publicly called out on what they are doing. For someone like me, who is fairly new to this arting community, I do not want to accidentally praise or support any of these people. Everything that I have learned has been from watching videos on YouTube and UStream and wonderful artist blogs like yours. I have gotten so much inspiration from everyone and when I feel like what I create and share on my blog resembles someone else’s art, I give that person credit for their inspiring me. I hope that is all right. These people who are down-right copying and selling others ideas is so terribly wrong and it needs to stop. But, I’m afraid that it probably won’t.
I, for one, am missing your sharing and will be grateful when you feel comfortable enough to share more here.
Aww thanks Dianne. The paper towel was what I was using to go under my page and to clean off my tools. I decided I liked the look of it so I used it in this page.
As for the lack of sharing I realize it is frustrating to students. It is frustrating to me too.
To put this in perspective it is artist teachers who are stealing or just copying from other artist teachers. Sometimes it is for profit and sometimes it is more just taking the ideas from videos, using them, and then not giving credit when fans ask about what they see. It is frustrating and annoying. But it seems to be coming from a very specific group of artist teachers, all of which were big on YouTube and most of which hardly post there any more. Eventually it will all work itself out. I just don’t want to continue to feed them my ideas until after I have had the pleasure of giving them to my students [paid and free] first. After that I don’t really care what they do. If all they do is copy then at some point they will be put on notice for it when they don’t have any ideas left to steal.
Students and those who do not teach are never the problem. Students tend to be so enthusiastic either in the classroom or just on their blogs that most of us are overwhelmed by the kindness and consideration they display. I have no problems with my students using what they are taught by me and I have no problem when they don’t give credit. I know who is a student of mine and who isn’t. It is always the ones who are doing it for profit that feel like they can’t be honest and share the love. Funny how money tends to change people.
its a nice page- and i like the quote idea
i would make it a game, myself because if say, she who must not be named copies you, you can have her jumping through hoops in no time ^^
but errr, of course, yes, she should move on
I tried that for a while Amanda. I would post something here and the next day she would post something too. But some days the fun just wears off and I want to be me. After awhile you start to get a little jiggy about constantly changing your routines and such in order to keep it real. Stalkers! lolz
love this one too..i am one of your students and you have made a huge impact on my art..thanks
awww
Thank you Joanne!
I absolutely love this one, most of all her shiny pinky cheeks

Thank you Conny! I like her pinky cheeks too!
