• DAJP – Color Combo Favs

Posted on December 10, 2011 by in Art Journals, Blog, Featured

I am always on the lookout for color combinations that I can use. Sometimes I see them somewhere else and try to take note of them. But often times I have to create them. And how do you do that when you don’t know which ones you will love?

I have found that I can create them by putting down collage items on a whole bunch of pages without conscious thought. Doing it subconsciously for the most part. Using intuition and my artist’s gut.

Then I go back one at a time and look at the colors those individual pages contain. And even if the combination seems unusual to me, I still work with it. I build up the colors with various materials and mediums.

This page is a great example. A nice soft pink {not my usual deep magenta} and a deep and light brown. Deep as in chocolate and light as in sandy.

I love this combination. Especially with the additions of black and white.

Materials: Found images, stickers, stamps, pens, markers, oil pastels, mulberry paper.

Colors: Soft pink, dark and light brown, black and white
