Occasionally I manage to get out and take a few photos. Not often. Over on the Lovin Mixed-Media Ning group there is a photo challenge to find the beauty in decay. This is a favorite theme of mine; finding the beauty in destruction. I put together a small set of photos over on flickr and set them to creative commons so that other artists can feel free to use them in their art. You can view the photos here.

I injured my left shoulder. I am left-handed. I can barely paint. Just raising my arm high enough to type this is painful. It is going to be a long miserable weekend if I can not paint.

Some of you know, and some of you don't... but I am without a job.

Some of you know, and some of you don’t… but I am without a job. The web development market here in Southwest Florida is in the tank. The only job I could find was such a horrible fit that it would have been funny were it not so bad. I gave it four months (at a 15% pay cut after the 1st month due to financial woes with the firm).

The long and short of it was: I am a web designer/ developer with 12 years experience and found myself trying to work in a print only oriented company. And although the position was supposed to be as a commercial web designer, print was asked for any way.

So unless something major occurs here in my area, in my field, I am at odds with how to support myself. And I have a mortgage to pay. Unless I want to face foreclosure I have to figure something out.

I would very much like that something that I do to include art, creativity, and if possible the many many hours I have invested in learning all things web design.

Until that major thing happens for me I am going to do my best to offer quality art and quality digital art and hope to find my niche, my tribe, my fans.

I put together a pretty texture pack, a bakers dozen, of high resolution digital images that you can use for personal and commercial work. I’ve priced the set at only .99 cents to make it affordable. I did not compromise on the quality. You can purchase the set here.

If you do any digital art these texture packs will make a nice addition to your set of tools.

This is a photo of my daughter taken on vacation years ago. I used two of the 13 textures to liven up an otherwise cute but typical vacation photo.

I would also be happy to create additional sets in any color scheme or subject. Just let me know what you might need.

-Christy

I’ve been working behind the scenes on a new eCourse to teach mixed-media artists how to paint faces digitally.

I thought I would give you a sneak peak over the next few days. Here is the first face that I have been working with.

If you are interested you can get started by signing up to my Ning site. These classes are designed to be quick, with a lot of bang for your buck and they are affordable.

Yep, Affordable. In fact, for the first class I am offering the class to you for $15.00.

This introductory offer will end on February 15th, 2010.

Membership to the Ning group will always remain free of charge but students who sign up during this introductory period will have unlimited lifetime access to the classroom. This too may change for new students after Feb. 15th.

You will learn the following:

Color palettes (I will be giving you an amazing skin tone palette as part of this course)

Great skin brushes (again, included in the course)

How to use the Pen tool (my favorite tool and I’ll teach you why)

How to use the Gaussian blur tool

Layer blend modes

The best sharpening process for drawings (and photos too really)

And much more.

Yes, all in 1 hour (maybe a little longer for some of the bonus materials I am adding on)
