Painting Big Funky Blooms

I love to paint in series, just like I love to read in series. For the past week I have been painting this one big bloom in various colors and varying the number of petals.

I’ve listed all six of these bloom paintings on my Etsy.

Our Wings – Mixed-Media Painting

I wanted to create a pretty stylized butterfly that wasn’t your typical color or look.

I have a wonderful book called “A Flight of Butterflies” from The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Thames and Hudson that a wonderful artist friend sent to me. She originally intended to alter this book but seeing the beautiful butterflies she chose instead to send it to me. I love butterflies.

This book is filled with the woodblock illustrations of Kanzaka Sekka of Japan and is one of my most treasured possessions.

Inspired by Kanzaka Sekka’s beautiful woodblocks I created this painting in the spirit of Japanese butterfly design. Very stylized and flowing lines. Soothing colors with a hint of spring.

It is available for purchase directly from me until Sunday April 4th, 2010. At that time I will add it to my Etsy store and the price will go up dramatically. I would prefer to sell direct with out using an online shopping system where I pay fee after fee and still offer free shipping.

Finally finished my cherub painting

Originally inspired by some paintings I did in my art journal, this piece has been quite the labor of love. I put the final touches on today and will be listing this painting on my Etsy. It will be there a limited time so if you like this one don’t wait too long.

What is she saying to you? To me she is saying “Love, it’s complicated”. I’ve spent a lot of time with her and I fall more in love with each passing day.

I am looking forward to painting and finishing a few of the works I have in progress this weekend. I have 15 works right now that are all in progress. If I had more space I would have more going.

Flutter – Original mixed-media collage

I just finished creating and listing this sweet homage to the butterfly in my Etsy shop.

Among the many different bits of ephemera are bible verses, gospel music and monopoly money. That is a $10 monopoly bill in the lower left corner there.

This one should be finished and listed sometime today or tomorrow. I am using a high gloss varnish for these and love the way it shows off the many layers.

Another palm tree – Warmer this time

I went smaller and warmer with this little palm at only eight inches. And yet the bright oranges and yellows make this little piece the warmest light in the room.
