• Spray inks on clothing!

Posted on July 18, 2011 by in Art Journals, Mixed-Media

One of my friends over at WildPrecious.com decided to paint a t-shirt that she had gotten paint on. When she posted a photo of the shirt something clicked in my brain. Since I use a fabric dye as my spray ink for my art journals why not spray a shirt. Like art journaling on my clothes. I have loads of shirts and even pants that I have ruined by getting paint or ink on them.

    Here is my first attempt:

This is the front of the tank top.

A larger view of the front of the shirt

The top back of the shirt

The bottom of the back of the shirt

This shirt is a light aqua and I think the next attempt will be on white. First though I want to bleach a few shirts so that I can do several at one time.

    Happy Creating!

It took maybe 10 mins start to finish. Just grab sprays and stencils and BAM! all new clothing :) I had a blast with it. Next up I am adding some text with the design.

I love what you did with the sprays & stencils! Gorgeous! I was wondering if you could share what type of spray inks you use? I have been trying to mix my own but have not had much luck yet. They are not near as vibrant as yours! TIA! : )

I sent you an email but I wanted to mention adding the alcohol is what makes them more vibrant. You might try mixing up some alcohol spray dyes!

Thanks so much! I am really enjoying watching your videos & your process. I am definitely going to give the dyes a try!

  3. I love using spray inks so this really appeals to me. Hmm I wonder if I have a shirt hanging around that I can practice on. Yours looks fabulous.

OMG..this is so cool! I, too, am interested in the type of fabric dyes… is it Rit Dyes?

  5. So cool…thanks for sharing…it brought back my first love…painting teeshirts…i used acrylic paint and it wasn’t soft…this method looks fantastic…and so current…nice to be Linkedin with you…

Hi E’Layne! Glad to meet you on Lindedin also. Yes the method is so freeing and fast. I just need to continue working on the process to keep the dyes from washing out too much after washing. Loving experimenting with it though. Thanks for your comment.
